People of Punjab Will Not Accept Arvind Kejriwal as ‘Super CM’: Sunil Jakhar

BJP lays siege to Punjab CM’s residence over law & order, drugs, corruption and ‘outsider control’

Chandigarh: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Punjab President Sunil Jakhar on Thursday said that while Bhagwant Mann is the elected Chief Minister of Punjab, the people of the state will never accept Arvind Kejriwal as Punjab’s “Super CM”.

Addressing a massive protest outside the Chief Minister’s residence in Chandigarh, Jakhar said that the failures of the Mann government will be judged by the people of Punjab themselves, but “outsiders ruling Punjab from Delhi will not be tolerated.”

BJP protests outside CM residence

Under the leadership of Sunil Jakhar, BJP leaders and workers laid siege to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence to protest against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s failure to control the worsening law and order situation, growing gangsterism, rampant corruption, and unchecked drug menace in the state.

Jakhar said the BJP had come to demand the immediate vacation of House No. 50 in Chandigarh, which is officially meant for the Chief Minister of Punjab but is allegedly being used by Arvind Kejriwal, who has emerged as the de facto ruler of the state.

“The people of Punjab want a Punjabi as their Chief Minister. They will not accept governance by remote control from Delhi,” Jakhar asserted.

‘We came to restore Mann’s authority’

In a sharp political attack, Jakhar said the BJP protest was, in fact, aimed at restoring Bhagwant Mann’s own authority as Chief Minister. However, by ordering the arrest of BJP leaders through the police, Mann had only weakened his own position.

“The people elected Bhagwant Mann as Chief Minister, not Arvind Kejriwal,” Jakhar said, adding that while Delhi leaders will eventually leave Punjab, Mann alone will have to answer to the people of the state.

‘Gangster raj, no safety for citizens’

The BJP Punjab chief alleged that Punjab is currently under a “gangster raj,” where ordinary citizens feel unsafe and there is no protection for life or property. Development works have come to a standstill, and corruption has reached alarming levels, he claimed.

Taking a dig at the AAP leadership, Jakhar said that ever since leaders like Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain—who have little political space left in Delhi—started frequenting Punjab, the state’s law and order situation has steadily deteriorated.

Appealing directly to Bhagwant Mann, Jakhar urged him to “protect his turban” and not allow Punjab’s honour to be trampled by leaders from outside the state.

“In reality, the BJP is helping Bhagwant Mann free Punjab from Kejriwal’s control,” he said.

Sacrilege, drugs and anti-drone system questioned

Jakhar accused the AAP government of repeatedly raising emotional issues over the past four years to divert attention from its failures. He reminded the Chief Minister that two governments in Punjab had been voted out over the issue of sacrilege, yet the Mann government has failed to deliver on its promises even after four years.

Referring to the government’s so-called “war against drugs,” Jakhar said that drug abuse has only increased despite repeated announcements. The launch of a second phase, coupled with a public display of distrust in the police, amounts to an open admission of failure, he added.

Questioning the ₹55-crore anti-drone system installed along Punjab’s borders, Jakhar demanded that its success rate be made public. Hinting at serious corruption in a matter linked to national security, he claimed the system has a failure rate of nearly 99.7 percent and called for accountability over the misuse of public funds.

Condemns attacks on media, delegation to meet Governor

Strongly condemning alleged attacks on journalists and media houses, Jakhar said that cases against journalists and action against the Punjab Kesari Group reflect the AAP government’s growing intolerance and signal its political decline.

He announced that a BJP delegation will meet the Governor of Punjab on January 17 to raise concerns over the erosion of democratic norms in the state.

Jakhar concluded by stating that the BJP stands firmly with public issues and that people across Punjab are increasingly looking towards the party with hope.
